December 8 is the registration deadline!
It’s student application and TA/mentor recruitment season for the CRANE 2025 Session. CRANE is the Computational Research Access NEtwork, a free virtual Python workshop aimed at BIPOC and underrepresented students interested in physics, nuclear science, and astronomy.
This workshop consists of weekly Python tutorials from January 22nd, 2025 through May 25th, 2025, with topics ranging from introductory Python coding, such as plotting, to more advanced topics, such as Monte Carlo methods and data analysis. The full schedule and list of topics can be found on the website at cranephysics.org [cranephysics.org].
This series is developed and run primarily by plasma physics and astronomy graduate students across the US who are underrepresented in their respective fields. We aim to equip students with valuable computational skills and create opportunities to support and advance their research careers. CRANE scholars will also have access to workshops on applying to internships and individual help with applications. We hope that from these experiences, students will enter their scientific careers with the confidence and skills they need to pursue research.
The application for spring 2025 is open, and students are encouraged to apply using this link [docs.google.com]. The deadline to apply is December 8th, 2024. Additionally, we are also looking for more TAs and mentors. TAs enable us to facilitate our lessons better, and mentors help students overcome unique barriers to confidently entering the field. Those interested in volunteering as a TA or mentor for CRANE are encouraged to fill out this interest form [docs.google.com].
