Good Morning! My name is Emma Houston and I am excited to share a day in my life as a grad student at UTK studying nuclear engineering. Here’s some pictures of Knox from this morning. I’m pointing to ZEC in the first one where we’ll spend most of today! pic.twitter.com/pB9DDRSVkB

Just got to campus! I live a 10 minute walk to my office so I get to walk everyday. My morning class was cancelled so I’m tuning into the GenIV International Forum webinar on Advanced Reactor Safeguards while I make my to do list and drink my coffee. pic.twitter.com/1u8kUb6Djl

I did my undergrad at UTK and I co-oped for @SouthernNuclear at the Vogtle 3&4 plants. I did three rotations in mechanical systems, reactor engineering, and cyber security. I use what I learned on co-op all the time and loved my experience! This is my favorite pic of the project! pic.twitter.com/qKkaGNxDIS

Now it’s time to study! We are taking a management of radioactive materials class and it’s nice to study in groups. pic.twitter.com/qqB0zkrLDb

I had a quick research question so I jumped on zoom with my advisor, Dr. Sandra Bogetic. My research is on antineutrino detectors for small modular reactors safeguards. I get to work with @Livermore_Lab for my research as well! pic.twitter.com/aJ132M7rBA

I am also one of the 2023 ANS student conference chairs (with Katy Worrell). So I am eating a very late lunch and finishing up these signs for stucon because we’re two weeks away! pic.twitter.com/urbqD9jnWC

I’m finally home! Usually I’m home well before this but life is busier recently! Now I need to work on some group meeting slides and send a few emails. pic.twitter.com/8MDtn6h1zw

When I started at UTK, I couldn’t have imagined that I would be researching nonproliferation and safeguards, something I am very passionate about! I’m grateful UTK has given me these opportunities.
Thanks for tuning in and to Women in Nuclear for letting me takeover twitter!😃
